Visit Mouvement Citoyen du 6 Juin (M66)in collaboration with civil society organizations and the Togolese diaspora, today publishes a crisis memorandumcalling on the international community to urgently intervene in the face of the serious deterioration of the political, institutional and human rights situation in Togo.

The memorandum highlights the systematic weakening of democracy, massive violations of fundamental rights, and the unilateral imposition of a new constitution by the current regime, with the aim of strengthening the power of the president. Faure Gnassingbé and his party.
KEY POINTS OF THE MEMORANDUM :
- Attack on democracy
The regime imposed a new Constitution on May 3, 2025, following a unilateral vote on April 19, 2024, without any popular consultation. This reform abolishes presidential elections by direct universal suffrage, reinforces the power of the UNIR party and constitutes a constitutional fraud. - Massive human rights violations
The current climate is marked by fear, torture, arbitrary arrests, extrajudicial executions, the bloody repression of demonstrations, the abusive use of force, and the total absence of judicial independence. Personalities such as Marguerite Essossimna Gnakade, Essowé Tchalla (Aamron) or Abdoul Aziz Goma are emblematic victims. - Repression of civil liberties
Freedom of the press, of demonstration and of opinion is severely curtailed. Independent media are muzzled, the Internet is censored, and militias such as the "People's Sentinels" are legalized and used to suppress citizen movements.
