The peaceful demonstrations that shook Togo in June 2025 left a heavy human and social toll.
Faure Gnassingbé Heir to a stolen throne, not elected by the people.
Brought to power in 2005 by a constitutional coup orchestrated by the army after the death of his father, Faure Gnassingbé has consolidated a dynastic dictatorship that has trampled on the will of the Togolese people for 20 years.
This power, inherited and never legitimized by a truly free and transparent election, has been imposed in blood: the post-electoral violence of 2005 left more than 500 dead according to the UN, and repression continued at every popular protest.
But the most serious turning point came in april 2024when the plan has operated a unilateral constitutional changeThis was the result of a decision by the French government to abolish presidential elections based on universal suffrage and to set up a parliamentary system controlled by its own camp.
Faure Gnassingbé has thus paved the way for a reign for life, without a popular vote, effectively transforming the Togolese Republic into a disguised monarchy.
The Mouvement du 6 Juin (M66) is the voice of the Togolese people, who have been betrayed, humiliated and deprived of their sovereignty for decades. Here are our major non-negotiable demands:
We demand the departure of Faure Gnassingbé and his government, the result of a constitutional coup d'état without any popular legitimacy.
Abolish the reforms imposed unilaterally in 2024 and restore the 1992 Constitution, the only guarantee of a democratic and republican state.
Put an end to arbitrary arrests and unconditionally release all those detained for their opinions, struggles or activism.
Guarantee freedom of expression and put an end to digital censorship, Internet blackouts and pressure on independent media.
Set up a transitional government led by representatives of the people and civil society to organize genuine elections.
Demilitarize political life, reform the army, and put an end to the use of defense forces as tools of domestic repression.
Acknowledge the massacres, executions, torture and disappearances, bring those responsible to justice, and compensate the families.
Enable political parties, trade unions, journalists and civil society to express themselves and act freely.
Organize a national referendum and free, transparent and inclusive elections under international supervision.
In this section, M66 pays tribute to political prisoners, freedom martyrs and all the victims of Faure Gnassingbé's authoritarian regime.
Faces erased, voices silenced, families shattered: behind every name, every photo, lies a story of courage and suffering.
We choose to memory against oblivion, justice against impunityand truth versus propaganda.
